Curtains went down on the one-week Shanghai Book Fair on 20 August 2014, which attracted more than 500 publishers from around the world who brought more than 150,000 titles of books to Chinese readers. Ten books were chosen as the most popular books, including Professor Zhang Weiwei’s new book China Overtakes (Shanghai People’s Publishing House), and Dr. Wang Zhen’s translated book The History of Government from the Earliest Times (volumes I and II, East China Normal University Press). Professor Zhang and Dr. Wang are both researchers at the SASS Institute of China Studies. The Shanghai Book Fair has been held annually since 2004 and has become one of the most important cultural events in Shanghai. (Hongyan Gu)
