Professor Naren Chitty of Macquarie University visited the Institute of China Studies, SASS

Professor Naren Chitty, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Director of the Soft Power Advocacy & Research Center at Australia’s Macquarie University, visited the Institute of China Studies, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences on 12 June 2014. Prof. Chitty teaches and researches in the area of soft power and public diplomacy, and is the founding editor-in-chief of the Journal of International Communication. He has also had a distinguished career as a public diplomat in Washington D.C., and was awarded the Order of Australia in 2009 for his outstanding services to the field of international communication. Prof. Chitty attended last year’s conference on the “International Dialogue on the Chinese Dream” in Shanghai, and gave a presentation on the Chinese dream and the international community. In the follow-up visit, Prof. Chitty introduced the education and research activities at Macquarie University, with special reference to the master course of international public diplomacy and the Soft Power Advocacy & Research Center, and explored possible areas of collaboration with researchers at the Institute of China Studies, SASS.
