Zhang Youwen is a researcher and Dean of the Institute of World Economy, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS). He was born in Shanghai in July, 1951 and holds a PhD in Economics. Mr. ZHANG was granted Doctoral Advisor by the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council in 1993 and entitled to Government Special Allowance (GSA). In 1996, he was granted the honor of middle-aged and young experts with outstanding contributions by the Ministry of Personnel. Mr. ZHANG had been Vice Dean of the Institute of World Economy, SASS since 1995 and has served as Dean since 2002. He holds concurrent posts as Vice Chairman of the Chinese Society of World Economy, Vice Chairman of National Society of American Economy, Chairman of Shanghai Association for World Economy Studies, Vice Chairman of Shanghai Society of Taiwan Research, chief editor of World Economy Study, Director for Post-doctor Training and Research station of Shanghai WTO Affairs Consultation Centre, Dean of Department of International Economics of China Foreign Affairs University. He has also served as expert and advisor of decision-making consultation, working with Shanghai Municipal Government, Financial and Economic Affairs Committee of the standing committee of Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress, Shanghai Foreign Investment Service Center, Shanghai Foreign Investment Development Board, Foreign Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipality, Taiwan Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipality and etc. Mr. ZHANG is leading scholar of key disciplines of world economy in Shanghai with his main research interest in the theory of world economy and China’s opening-up strategy.
