Zuo is the Executive Vice (Acting)President of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Director of the Institute of Economics at the Academy, and the Director of the Center for Urban and Regional Development at the Academy. He has published more than 50 papers on the Academic journals and several books. Some of the works are awarded prizes by the Shanghai Municipal Foundation of Philosophy and Social Science Research, the Shanghai Municipal Policy Research, and the China Population Association. He has been the major investigator of a number of key research projects including “Population aging and socioeconomic policy responses in the 21st Century China”, “Shanghai Urban Development Strategy” sponsored by the Shanghai Municipal Foundation of Philosophy and Social Science Research, and the Shanghai Municipal Development Research Center. He is also the President of the Shanghai Econometric Society, the President of Shanghai Association of Aging Studies, the Vice President of Shanghai Society of Labor and Social Security, and the Vice President of China Population Association (2000-08).
