Xu Jilin, distinguished professor of East China Normal University, doctoral supervisor of Department of History, executive vice dean of Si-mian Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities, and executive vice director of Institute of Modern Chinese Thought and Culture of ECNU. Xu was advanced visiting scholar successively in The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Australian National University, National University of Singapore, Harvard University, Academia Sinica of Taiwan, The University of British Columbia of Canada, and École des hautes études en sciences socials of France. In recent years, he is mainly engaged in the studies of history of China’s thought and intellectuals in the 20th century, and urban culture of Shanghai. Xu’s recent works include: Ten Papers on China’s Intellectuals, Self-collapse of Enlightenment (co-author), Intellectuals in the Great Age, Public Communication of Intellectuals in Modern China (co-author) etc.
